The High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), jointly developed by Sony, Hitachi, Thomson (RCA), Philips, Matsushita (Panasonic), Toshiba and Silicon Image, is enjoying fast growing popularity. HDMI Licensing, the agent responsible for licensing the HDMI specification, has announced that more than 500 manufacturers have adopted the standard, a 60% increase since January 2006. The agent cited In-Stat as forecasting that more than 130 million devices featuring HDMI will be shipped in 2007.
