Military Shows Off New Ray Gun
Source: Breitbart.com
___________ MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. (AP) -- The military calls its new weapon an "active denial system," but that's an understatement. It's a ray gun that shoots a beam that makes people feel as if they are about to catch fire. Apart from causing that terrifying sensation, the technology is supposed to be harmless _ a non-lethal way to get enemies to drop their weapons. Military officials say it could save the lives of innocent civilians and service members in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. |

how could one feel like almost bursting into flames and still not be harmed..... theres gotta be some kinda of residue that may not be initially apparent... like frying your skins and or internal organs.

I could see this being used for riots but not fanatical Islamic fundamentalists who will pick up their weapon shortly after they realize they are not on fire and continue fighting.

This was literally Science Fiction 18 months ago. A short story by Greg Benford
http://www.tangentonline.com/index.p...494&Itemid=259 "The Pain Gun" by Gregory Benford showcases the use of non-lethal weapons technology in a hypothetical near future. The protagonist is a cynical lieutenant stationed in a Middle East devastated by a nuclear exchange with Israel. He and his peacekeepers are charged with minimizing casualties during confrontations with the natives—a directive that remains difficult with an enemy still inspired by jihadic ideas. To address this issue, the lieutenant's superiors bring in a non-lethal weapon. Using microwaves, it generates intense pain—but no permanent damage—in targeted individuals. The "pain gun," however, is not as well suited to the combat theater as it could be. The lieutenant offers his background in cellular installation to enhance its range and effectiveness." |

For some reason I alwasy expected flying cars to be popular before the invention of the ray gun.

It literally heats you up, " Anyone hit by the beam immediately jumped out of its path because of the sudden blast of heat throughout the body. While the 130-degree heat was not painful, it was intense enough to make the participants think their clothes were about to ignite." So prolonged exposure could start to denature proteins and such. But it would have to be quite prolonged.

believe me.... microwaves hurt... if a more powerful version would come out, they could fry someone's insides instantly
