Will I or won't I do the Windows Vista shuffle? How about you? What do you need to know? How about a whole bunch of stuff that you don't need to know instead? Next week maybe we get Ozzy to chime in on Office 2007.

Loving it (mostly) as tech sites put the boot in to Vista - this article makes all the ponts that are needed. DX10 is "jam tomorrow" and thanks to the installed base of XP, any releases for some time to come will need to support DX9 as well as DX10. Also the fact that it is currently benchmarking (in games) far worse than XP, though driver development may turn that around.

Mind you, I'd disgree with the opinion in which Windows versions sucked:
Best of the previous ones has to be Win98SE, the worst, probably Windows ME (for the number of application breakages from 98, for very few positives).

Windows (and Windows for workgroups) 3.11 was the peak of the evolution of the 16 bit / Windows running on top of DOS era.

If you ignore WinME, 98SE was the peak of 32 bit (95-style kernel) era, while Win2000 was the peak of the NT stream.

Windows XP, the successful marriage of the two lines (95-98 home & NT professional) into one.

Vista has a lot to live up to.
