Apple Offers $1.99 802.11n Upgrade
Source: BetaNews
_________ Apple has begun offering a $1.99 USD software patch that would enable use of 802.11n wireless networking on select Intel-based Mac models. However, the update has not come without controversy. The Cupertino company claims that it had to offer the capabilities in this manner due to finance laws, commonly referred to as GAAP, which they say require a charge for significant feature enhancements. But many Wall Street analysts have said that is not the case. |

I am not familiar with Apple enough, is this common practice, to ask money for a patch?

Not common at all, really. I'm kind of surprised they nickle and dime like that when they charge such a high premium for all their hardware.
Reminds me when HP made me pay $14.95 for a Scanner Driver update so it would work with Windows 2000. I paid it, cause at the time I had a $500 scanner. But still... Bad on them for pulling this crud.
