Blu-ray films outsell HD-DVD by 2 to 1

Source: vnunet
__________
The first independent data on Blu-ray and HD-DVD disc sales has found that Blu-ray is outselling its rival by a factor of more than two to one.

Figures gathered by Nielsen VideoScan show that for every 47.14 HD-DVDs discs sold in the first week of January, 100 Blu-ray discs were sold. By the second week in January the HD-DVD figure had fallen to 38.36.

The most popular film with the Blu-ray camp is Crank, a thriller with Jason Statham playing an assassin who is poisoned and must keep his heart rate up to stay alive.

most strange, an insider told me last week that it was 2:1 for HD DVD due primarily to the amount of HD DVD players Microsoft were selling at £130... (when compared to 500 quid+ for a bluray). maybe the states is reversed.

hohum will become famous soon enough

I can't see how this is the case... HD-DVD has been out longer, plus Blu-ray films cost more don't they?

Um, some proof would be nice. Like where the information came from. For all we know it could have been Blue-Ray's reported # they sold to businesses vs the number of HD-DVD's actually purchased by consumers.

e-motion is on a distinguished road

This was a well orchestrated operation from Nielsen/Videoscan that forgot to include HD-DVD/DVD discs, otherwise called "combos" into the HD-DVD numbers...

Of course all the pro-BR websites such as thedigitalbits.com jumped on it and declared BR victorious already.

Am I the only one getting tired of the BDA's dirty tactics ? I'm really hoping it ends up blowing up in their face, I'm sick of their lies and arrogance.

Dont really know how legit the figures are but the above statement tells me that blu-ray owners have no taste!

I know for a fact that Target here has 4 shelves of HD and 1 of BluRay, and circuit city has about 2 shelves to 1

"HD-DVD buyers are more tempted by Batman Begins and Mission Impossible III."

these are now old movies? I'd question the #'s for sure....
over 160 titles readily avilable, I find it questionable those would be the top 2, older movies...
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....&type=category

seems blue ray has the same # of movies available
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....&type=category

"It is also clear that the bulk of Blu-ray purchasers are PlayStation 3 owners. Over a million units of the games console have been sold in the US so far."

keep in mind the ps3 bundles with a free blue ray movie in them! =
a movie sale? I wonder... anyways blue ray is only wiining due to ps3, soon as
hd dvd players are widley avilable, we'll see who top dog with like 1/2 the price

"The figures cover only two weeks, however, and may have been skewed by the fact that only two HD-DVD titles came onto the market during this period."

only two weeks? also you can get a HDDVD add on for X360 for $199
