Nvidia facing possible lawsuit over Vista drivers

Source: TG Daily
_________
Culver City (CA) - A group of Nvidia customers are upset over the company's lack of final Vista drivers and are now threatening a class action lawsuit against the graphics card giant. The customers claim that the cards don't adequately work with Microsoft's newest operating system and feel that the company isn't being truthful about being "Vista Ready". One customer, who we can only name as 'Nathan', has even created a website nvidiaclassaction.org and is seeking legal help for a possible lawsuit.

On the same note (but different hardware) the same could be said for Creative Labs. Their drivers are poor and they give really no indication except maybe March for certified drivers. Very poor support for large companies irregardless of HAL (DS3D) being removed

This whole thing is nuts. It's Microsoft that screwed things up, not Nvida or ATI. They cut OpenGL off at the knees and changed DirectX like crazy, and also (this is a good thing) moved graphics out of the inner ring.

I think ATI and Nvidia need time to work this out. I honestly don't think it is their fault.

What a suprise. Grow up for Gods sake LOL. No wonder America's justice system and start a lawsuit against anything that moves culture is the butt of jokes across the world. Maybe I should start one against AVG because it shuts down whenever vista launches or how about my Hauppauge T-stick having no driver support, even my G15 keyboard has no vista driver.

Actually I think creative are in a worse state of affairs. they arent delivering on many products and devices like the NX USB card had drivers scheduled for mid december..... then january. and now 1st quarter 2007. With many other products "discontinued".......

Appalling really for such a large company.

As for this nvidia drivers class action website, we were one of the first to say their vista drivers were substandard, especially considering they claim "vista ready" on the box. Im sure they will sort it out the situation, but how Nvidia have dealt with this is less than stellar.

I think nathan might find it a little difficult trying to force nvidia's hand however.......

Do any of them A) have vista ready plastered all over the box and webpages or B) cost $600+

I can completely see why people are so annoyed at Nvidia, its all the false marketing and promises... yes there are other companies who are in a bad state driver wise however none of them are saying their hardware is "Vista Ready" etc.

Also, i could be wrong but it looks like your T-stick does work: http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/Promotions/vista.html

And g15 wise, run the XP software in compatibility mode and you should be fine until the official drivers come out.

I think its great someone is trying to do something with this. Nvidia driver support has gotten terrible. THis supporting only one series of cards, and having that support be really lackluster. I won't be buying another NV card again.

What I've heard about Creative is that they are in financial trouble... And you can see it's effects in driver development. But anyways I hope that creative, nVidia and AMD/ATi can iron these issues out soon.

OMFG.....I just found out that my trusty old Commodore 64 can't even run 32 bit, let alone the 64 bit version of VISTA. I mean it SAYS it's a 64!!!!!!!!!

Who do I sue ?????

OH, I just noticed. This is on the same site that Ole Wolfgang Gruener works for....nevermind.

Hi Veridian, thanks man, yes my Hauppauge has Vista plastered all over the box, I bought it last saturday. So far it has a beta driver that doesnt even detect the card, after forcing it through the software doesn't work and locks up the system. G15 works with xp drivers and I said that but how long has vista been in development?

Im not wanting an argument or anything im too mellow and non confrontational for that but Nvidia has a perfectly acceptable set of drivers out there that enable me to play my games. My ATI X800XT system is another story, even with drivers out there I still can't play half my games.

I think the majority of the problems we are all having boil down to Vista not being ready. It would have took one call from MS to the major manufacturers to ask are you ready. My problem with this whole issue is the pointless 5 minutes of fame lawsuit.

Respectfully Colin

Actually you are right about Creative, their Vista forums are just scorching with people pissed right off with their lack of support, and those with Audigy (especially Audigy 4's) feeling like they will be left out. Not a good time to be a mod there.

people should just have to wait and be patient.

some people are understanding, other people are just intolerable about it.

simply i just state, "driver support is underway and will be released in the near future." Then they ask, "do you know when?" My reply, "I haven't the slightest idea, but they will be out when they're out."

Slightly Off topic (sorry) do you mean you are trying to use Haup's own media centre rather than the built in one?

Playing devils advocate here...

Why should they have to wait?

The info says "Vista Ready" on the box, the various product websites say "Vista Ready".... Nvidia's web page even had "The NVIDIA GPUs listed below are ready today for Windows Vista." which then mentioned the 8800's. The word today was removed over a month after the 8800 was launched.

If i was a consumer who bought a card based on the claim should i not expect to have it working properly in Vista now? Or an ETA on when it will... both seem reasonable to me.

I can hardly believe people would want to sue Nvidia over this.

New Operating Systems take time to work the glitches out.

"Vista Ready" is a requirement of the Vista Driver Submission and Certification process. You send your drivers in to be certified to Microsoft. Once they certify those drivers, you can use the "Vista Ready" logo.

Nvidia did everything they were required to do - and so did ATI.

Last minute changes to the OS is likely what caused the issues.

Why not sue Microsoft instead, since they are the ones who certfied the ATI and Nvidia drivers. Wouldn't that make THEM negligent?

Again, trying to see where the end users are coming from...

Back when the card was launched, emblazened with "Vista Ready", Nvidia had not submitted a working 8800 driver to Microsoft. Infact there still isnt a certified driver for that product and there is no date for a certified driver available.

I'm not saying i agree with having a lawsuit over it... but i can see why they are annoyed.

I can see people being annoyed, but suing? That is just a pathetic money grab.
