TiVo sees if you skip those ads
Source: SFGate
_________ TiVo revealed the other day that it's offering TV networks and ad agencies a chance to receive second-by- second data about which programs the company's 4.5 million subscribers are watching and, more importantly, which commercials people are skipping. This raises a pair of troubling questions: Is TiVo, which revolutionized TV viewing with its digital video recording technology, now watching what people watch? And is it selling that sensitive info to advertisers and others? |

Throw this into the mix:
You pay for HDTV programming, right? You expect to get your 1920x1080i or 1080p, right? You expect the full-on experience with all the great clarity and resolution? Errr - companies are taking 1920x1080 signals and not only compressing the heck out of them to save bandwith, but cutting the thing down to 1280x1080 so they can still claim to be providing a 1080 signal, but save bandwidth too. Some companies are claming that 480p is an HDTV resolution, though most networks seem to be on the up and up and give you 1280x720p on over-the-air broadcasts. But DirectTV, Dish and Cable? Don't trust 'em as far as you can throw a 900 pound bowling ball... |

I'm getting a HDTV next week and don't plan on paying for HD content. The free over the air content will do fine with the built in antenna. Why pay all that extra money for a few more channels when most of the important ones are free?.. 2,4,5,7,9.
Regarding Tivo, I use the 30-second skip hack (select-play-select-3-0-play) and don't watch ANY commericals unless I chose to. I'll end up watching the ones today with SuperBowl but.. otherwise.. F um. I don't care if they know I don't watch them.. good. Maybe they'll figure out I'm not some mindless sheep who buys things because they say I should. |

the only major problem i have with it(i dont like the overall concept-minor) is that it is a pay-for-service, dont think they shpuld make extra $$ of my subscription without getting my permission & reimbursing me.
i have 1 lifetime 'scrip & 1 monthly 'scrip that is paid up ffor another 6-8 months(got a good deal). if they do yjis i wont be renewing my monthly 'scrip. & if any of u think everybody else isnt going to jump on that bandwagon(assuming it happens)... as far as hd goes, directv has the best iq. i have both cable & sat & it is a discernible dif. of the air is lowest quality- at least with the 4 channels i have available.
