ATI’s “R600” Graphics Cards’ Image Transpires.
Source: Xbit-Labs
Thanks to IvanV for the submission. _______________ A picture of the graphics card that is claimed to be a board based on the code-named graphics processor R600 from ATI, graphics product group of Advanced Micro Devices, has been published by an Asian web-site. The board seems to be huge and is said to have nearly extreme demands for power. |

I doubt very much that the Built By ATI model of the thin will have that length, they mentioned it was for system builters or oems or similare. The retail product will probably nock a full 4 inches off the sucker or more.
As long as it's no more then a full inch longer then the BBA x1900 series, i won't have to change my Case just to fit the sucker in it.

Wtf, OEM version sucks! Retail version it is for me regardless of the differences.

I'm really curious to know what PSU wattage is recommended for the beast.. more reading results in that although the higher end models have 2x PCI-ex 6pin power connectors (meaing crossfire will require 4x PCI-ex 6 pin ) and the lower models will be able to handle just asingle PCI-ex 8 pin power connector.
Now if i decide to throw 2 r600 top end cards in my machine, where the hell am i going to get a freaking psu that'll do the job. I'm already nearly my limits of the 700watt OCZ GamerXStream psu i've got atm, and it's only got the 2 pci-ex 6 pin connectors.... Maybe we aren't far away from having 1200 watt PSU's

It's surprising that no one else has commented about how artificial (as in fake) that picture looks...

(It's only a 410W Chieftec/Sirtec) PS: Afaik, the OEM version is 12" and the retail is 9.5". And do I see two Crossfire connectors on that board? |

that card is the one released months ago for developers. Retail will be far smaller.

Yeah, it's so extremely oversized I'm not sure how true is it. I don't think it would fit into my Chieftec Dragon, even though it's a fairly spacy case.
Because of the length and the "handles", it reminded me of Voodoo 5 6000: ![]() EDIT: If they could redisign the cooling so that the fan is actually above the PCB, they could make it much shorter. |

I know i read the requirements, but i'm curious to know what will indeed work, and i know that my current PSU, i don't think will handle it very efficiently.
I mean i had troubles with a OCZ PowerStream 600watt and a OCZ GamerXStream 600 watt as well, both would at specific times, mostly when overclocking was happening, result after about 30 seconds roughly a full system shutdown with the PSU becoming completely DEAD due to the overload bring tripped. My 700 watt never has done that, but i betcha i'm occasionally pushing over 625 watts under full load sustained apparently. Looking at my APC UPS information, i've also confirmed this. (turning and unplugging other devies shows roughly at full load, about 650 watt draw from the wall) Anyways, i've had excellent luck with ocz and i'd prefer to stick with thier psu, i quite like them, i haven't had one die on me yet, and every machine i build that's of any good quality contains one enless the customer specifically asks for a specific type OR they want it cheaper (then i've been recently subbing in coolermaster psu's or sparkle) I don't like to use splitters or dongles of any sort to get the connection i need, i don't know, i'm just picky that way. I was leary using the double 4 pin molex to 6 pin pci-ex splitter on the powerstream 600 to hook up the crossfire setup. I don't think i'd be to confortable using 2x that to hook up another card specially being not to far from hitting the 700 watt mark. I guess we'll see, who knows what the final product will FOR SURE have for requirements, weight/length/speed or whatever else. Engineering samples usually are quite messy and power hungry just to get the task done and good to go, then it's trimmed down from there to fit the tightest possible quarters. That Tagan psu looks good, but like i said.... sticking with OCZ till i need to absalutely ditch. (which hopefully never happens) would it be to much to still ask for a 850watt modular OCZ 4x PCI-ex 6/8 pin PSU

http://www.http://www.ocztechnology....dia_sli_ready_ Plus I guess at the end of the day you could always use molex to pci-e convertors. Oh and i'd be stunned if your drawing that much power. |

It looks to be a regular sized card. The heatsync is what gives it such a longer length.

interesting.. i didn't even notice the 1000 watt was added recently..
every PSU wattage caculated i've used has come out to roughly exactly what my APC unit says i'm using... so i haven't thought much beyond it, and having 2 600 watt PSU's fail to keep the machine powered up would seem to suggest this as being the case.... could i wouldn't doubt that the 5v and 3.3v rails aren't been used at all really.

This point is being neglected over and over again:
ONLY THE OEM VERSION WILL HAVE THE HUGE COOLER AND BE 12.4" IN LENGTH. THE RETAIL VERSION WILL BE 9.5". |

We are in the cool expectations phase of the launch. Remember the 8800gtx had lots of viral marketing showing water cooling and such. This is to make the actual product look ecological by comparison and we will happily buy the thing. This card will be the fastest and use the mostest power - seems to be the current trend in new tech.

Hmmm if those power requirements are try I may just end up back w/ Nvidia even if they're a bit slower. Your power supply should never cost more than your graphics solution.

They likely won't be - as this said earlier - this feels like ati's pre launch lower expectations phase. These companies have got very good with these little viral nuggets on the web, to control ultimate reception of new products. Expect something that uses more power than the gtx, but nothing like this.

I hope i can get rid of these "slightly" buggy x1900 cards, i've already got a confirmed RMA granted process sitting idle, i just don't want to send em away are i can somewhat use the cards as they are, the problems only are excibitied on a few monitors or under certain circumstances. I just wanna get a R600 card soo to replace these (and crossfire mode for these would be even more steller, specially if they go dongless)

You haven't seen the price of the graphics solution yet, it could make having your own generator look cheap!

Erm...did anyone notice the 6 pin pci-e connector and the 8 pin WTF is that for?
ATI DX10 R600 Pictures The OEM card is actually the normal length, the OEM version probably has a world class reknown Dell cooling solution on it. hehe |
