DH Blog: Cables - 1:0 - Who_Knows

We're supposed to be living in a wire-free world where connecting one device to another is a matter of a few clicks. We all know that is far from the truth however and many headaches have been caused by cables that just wouldn't fit.

Good read, I have about 10 random cables by my feet right now.

It took me a good ten seconds to realize there was something different about my DVI connection but I just thought it was faulty or lazy on someone's part but now I know there are different DVI connections. I need to do some research so I can find what I have for my moniter and the other types that are out there.

But this is how a resourefull but unfamiliar with tech person would have handled it:
Try to match the plugs. Take a picture of both connections that should fit and take them to someone who may know how to fix the problem and if all else fails Google

And how a person who is not resourcefull or tech savy would have handled it:
Try to match the plugs, eventually settle for less or anything that works and eventually learn later the right way to do it, or go to Best Buy and scream at anyone who knows like they may be able to help but are refused help because no one can understand what they are talking about when they are shouting and blaming everyone in sight

I'm sure people will eventually get it though they have to go through different methods of learning and such.

Again good read.

exclamation

I had the exact problem also. You'd think all these manufacturers would get a clue that they would sell more product by being compatible instead of intentionally incompatible!!! Same with software, a/v encoding, hardware, powersupplies, etc..etc...etc...

But then life wouldn't be so interesting, would it?!! It's the same everywhere - I'm a professional audio engineer and guess what I carry most of? Not equipment - but cables and controllers and such to make the equipment work - each with it's own way of wanting to do things!

Feel for you, Bro - it sets me on kill (or at least mayhem) at times!

I prefer wired over wireless.

While my wireless internet connection is excellent, it still has it's issues, and while wireless routers are nice, they have just as many if not more issues that can't be resolved.

Wired is always going to be more reliable, at least you can more easily diagnose issues with wired vs wireless.

wireless is a pipedream I like wires, a big nest of them looks very sci-fi! i like to control exactly where my data is streaming and, as judas says, there's no issues.
