Skype DRM reported on your motherboard and bios serial numbers
Source: MonstersAndCritics.com
____________ Recently, several forums, mailing lists, and blogs started talking about Skype and 1.com, a file mentioned in errors on Windows 64 bit systems running Skype software. 32-bit systems never see this file mentioned and are unable to locate it apparently, because it triggers the bios at startup. The file 1.com was located, after Myria on the pagetable blog used a debugger, and was able to determine what 1.com does. It records bios and motherboard serial number information. What got them looking for the file was the error many on 64-bit system see, “The program or feature [path for local 1.com file] cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit Windows compatible version is available." Who gets this information? Why is it collected? |
