GeForce 8900GTX and 8950GX2 Pricing and Information

Source: TweakTown
____________
News just hit our bench about upcoming information regarding nVidia’s upcoming G80 based graphics cards. We want to first clearly state that we’re not sure if the information is accurate and at best it would just be estimated prices.

Our friends over at OCW seem to be talking to the right people here in Taiwan and have a bunch of information regarding the most expensive GeForce 8950GX2 that will be sold for $599 USD. It is rumored to be a dual GPU solution much like the 7950GX2 and will come with a total of 512MB GDDR-4 memory per GPU.

The second on the list is the GeForce 8900GTX which will replace the current high-end 8800GTX. It will ship at a retail price of $549 USD and sees total pipelines increased to 128 which is an increase of 32 or 25% as suggested by Fudo over at the INQ recently. It will also see the inclusion of GDDR4 memory which allows nVidia to increase the clock speed to a huge 2200MHz DDR. It also seems like the manufacturing process is being reduced to 80nm from 90nm in the latest batch of G80 chips.

I wonder what monster power requirements that 8900 series is going to have...

It would be great if they could spend some engineering time on figuring out how to make the cards physically shorter so they don't take so much room up inside the system and so they don't block as much air because of their bulk.

Maybe the 8900 will be better optimized? We can hope. More efficient even? We can hope. Faster though? Well, that we kind of demand...

Man thats awesome, cant help but smile a little. I'm sure I just heard the sound of 200 AMD employees collectively slapping their foreheads and groaning.
I like both AMD and Nvidia but by the looks of things this round has definitely gone to the green side of the force.

Greenside of the force... lol

You know what is odd about this is that ATI hasn't even come out with their first DX10 part yet, and Nvidia's on its first refresh. Oh man!

Now, if they can just fix their drivers.

From what i've heard direct x 10 gaming won't become mainstream till at least summer 2008. However they serve as excellent direct x 9 cards for the time being.

It may not be in place right now, but the fact that Nvidia is already on its second engineered product for DX 10 should bode well for the future.

Hopefully by that 2008 date, the cards will be much more efficient and the bugs will be all worked out. Better to get ahead of the curve as a developer than be left reacting to the thing so far after the fact.

Yes but I doubt it'll compare to ATI's confusing 8+6+6+9 pin conundrum thing which only unlocks it's 'more power super option' if you dance counter clockwise with 1 finger in the air and a dead ferret sticking out your bum. I mean that things asking for plugs I don't think I even have. I'm firmly on the fence at the moment and think i'll stop up here because im gonna get bitten whichever way I jump.

Oh and my mum's told me a billion times not to exaggerate.

So I guess she will probably regret it next time she's choking on some steak and you kindly walk away telling her to knock it off...
