Copy Protection is gonna kill some of these cool concepts, indeed.

Look at Apple's solution - their AppleTV thing is already miles ahead of HTPC stuff and it isn't even out yet...

I think it all depends on what you want. To me, having a dedicated HTPC with all my multimedia on it is better than using something like appletv to send it to my tv from the computer I already use to game on. Not to mention it doesn't record tv, and you can't watch a DVD from it directly. I'm not sure how it's "miles ahead" of HTPC stuff? To me, the AppleTV looks like an underpowered HTPC. That may be slightly off-topic, and my information may be outdated / just plain wrong. If you've got information that proves devices like the appletv are better than what I've read about, please, prove me wrong.
