Sony Announces Cheaper Blu-Ray Player
Source: ABC News
________ NEW YORK Feb 26, 2007 (AP)— Sony Corp. said Monday it is bringing out a cheaper player for Blu-ray discs early this summer, a crucial step in its battle to make the high-definition format the replacement for DVDs. The BDP-S300 will cost $599, yet will have the same capabilities as the $999 BDP-S1 Sony is currently selling, said Randy Waynick, senior vice president of the home products division of Sony Electronics. |

IIRC, 'same capabilities as the $999 BDP-S1' means it's still a nice storage device that actually can't play HD movies. The only BD player that can is still the one made by Samsung.

"The BDP-S300 will cost $599" what that aka please go buy a ps3 they say?
"Eighty percent of people who buy a PS3 also buy Blu-ray movies to go with it," to bad most of those where bundled with a blu ray movie. I assume counted as "buying a movie with it" So yes sure cook your own numbers sony... it won't win you the format war... why a company care so much who wins in dunno... but cash is king and hddvd is still cheaper.... war over

hopefully the cheaper productiun prices will reflect on the ps3's production price, which will then reflect on its MSRP.
