Microsoft Buys Medstory, a Start-up Medical Search System

Microsoft Corp. has announced it will acquire a California start-up, Medstory Inc., which has developed search-engine technology for the main use of patients. The move follows Microsoft's purchase last July of Azyxxi, a healthcare software system developed by the Washington Hospital Center.

Azyxxi retrieves and displays patient information from many sources including scanned documents, X-rays, MRI scans and ultrasound images.

Microsoft claimed it was "impressed with the ability of Medstory's unique technology to organize and surface the most relevant online health content, which empowers consumers who are trying to find the right information about an important life event," Microsoft Vice President for Health Strategy Peter Neupert said.
