DH Blog: Are you sure?
Computers are no longer the domain of computer geeks. Nowadays even old grandmothers know how to send e-mails or use Google. They also know how to fill the computer up with pesky trojans.

Ok, sorry... I wrote something really intelligent and with good ideas but I accidentally clicked the back button on my mouse (which I never use) and it was all delleted. I'ma take a break from the comp right now cause I'm really pissed off at the moment at the uselessness of extra buttons on my mouse used for surfing the web f*ck! |

I know exactly what you mean mate. I posted something very similar in this thread http://www.hardwareheaven.com/news/130...our-blind.html post number7.
It's ok warnings popping up on the screen but only if you know what the hell the warning is talking about. As for moving items on the start menu!!!!! That was the final straw for me with regards UAC. After taking 15 minutes just to move my games and office applications I decided it finally had to go. Vista: experienced user edition or Vista: I actually enjoy monthly reformatting edition, thats the answer. |

I intended to get Vista for myself. But if it's really such a pain in the a** I shouldn't really bother. Not until it gets fixed in SP2 or SP3

I disabled UAC because i know what I'm doing with my PC, I'm Microsoft certified for XP, 2003 and soon also Vista, but it's a ok solution for the normal user, or is it?
You do mention the problem in your fine blog, the lack of information when starting an "unsafe" program. "Are you sure you want to start upd_read.exe?" No normal user would know what that means and the majority will therefore start the program anyway. I agree with your solution, that some sort of central DB has to be made, with all the most popular problems in it. They could even download the "program definitions" automatically, just like they do with Windows Defender. |

I just disabled that UAC stuff it was way too annoying. I got warnings even when trying to access my own files on another hard drive.

I think they tried to copy the system in Mac OSX and made it too restrictive. I think everyone turns it off to be honest.

Can UAC be turned off per user or is it for all users?
