ATI Radeon X1950 GT & Windows Vista - Not Friends Yet? @ TechARP
Source: TechARP
_______________ Although it may seem impossible, ATI has apparently done just that. The new Radeon X1950 GT is being shipped without a working Vista driver, even though it's "certified for Windows Vista". Surprisingly, yes. One would have thought that Vista certification is at least as stringent as Windows XP, if not more stringent. But ATI has apparently managed to certify their graphics card without a working driver. That is probably an industry first. |

B*&^*$KS, that less than favourable award goes to the green team. Still at least it should calm down the pointless bickering a little, I mean now that both sides have shown not so much a weakness but a less than speedy uptake on microsofts finest. Now get the bloody new hardware out

Of course one would expect a new video card to work with all the current MS OS's, but it's not that big an issue as Catalyst 7.3 will be out any day now.
Update: I found a beta 7.3 driver that might work http://downloads.guru3d.com/download...10ffa8434a1417 Last edited by Sonata; Mar 26, 2007 at 09:46 PM. |

Seems fairly simple to understand...the box art is planned and and put into production weeks if not months before the product ships. Since this product was always planned for shipping with a Vista driver onboard, that's why the box is labeled as it is. It would appear, though, that shipping was faster than estimated, which means that the Vista driver for the product was a week or two behind the initial shipments of the card. So...in a couple of weeks when ATi releases 7.3, the driver revisions will catch up to the product revisions. For those who don't know it--the box art and the product shipment and the driver revisions are all handled by different departments in the company--and in this case it would appear the product initially shipped a couple of weeks early--if indeed the GT is currently available anywhere off the retail shelf. It's merely a case of the cart getting there before the horse, by a couple of weeks...
