DH Blog: OMFGBBQRAWR
"DH rox, srsly!" You will (probably) never see a DH staff member begin a review or post with these words, but you just might hear them at the local mall or in a Burger King located in lower Burkina Faso (yeah, DH is that popular). Focus on the "srsly" part though - therein lies the gist of today's blog.

It's sad, but true. Even in America people are starting to talk that way... Although not nearly as bad as your describing in your country, but then again this goes along with your assumption too.. Although this is just in the area I live..

And the most scary part is, that even teenagers who doesn't use computers that much, still uses lol, rofl and so on. My little sister, which does use a computer sometimes, is starting to use lol A LOT, though she actually doesn't even know what lol stands for.
*sigh* |

caught myself actually saying 'lol' the other day. really confused me for a moment, felt kinda like deja vu or someting along those lines. think i was actualy trying to move & click my mouse.. i was in my truck.
luckily i managed to snap back to reality, & resist the strong temptation to bitchslap myself.

Not only is it so ugly to read, I think that prolonged exposure to Internet speech may start to infect your own writing. I find myself sometimes second-guessing how I spell some words, because I can't natively remember anymore if they're spelled the correct way or the Internet way.
On net slang though, I do like to say "rofl" and "woot" to some people I know, for my own sick amusement.

Totally wrong!
Kids in the US don't speak at all, they huddle in circles and text each other on cell phones. Seriously though, the overflow of this "language" into typical conversation is distubing to say the least. Its bad enough that the average teen probably has never read a book that he/she wasn't forced to as part of their school's curriculum, or that pop culture references are consider to be high satire, or that more people are concerned with Paris Hilton's vagina than they are with the health of the planet, but now I have to hear "ROFL" in place of actual laughter. About the first comment... I was actually at coffee on a lunch break a few days ago. The high school kids had the day off and were out and about. There was a table of 4 boys ages 15-17 probably. I watched for about an hour while the four boys (carrying skate boards that appear to never have been used) did not conduct one single conversation for the entire time they were there. There was not one word said, and hardly eye contact made, for nearly an hour. They all had their heads buried into the phones, typing, placing them down, and picking them right back up again, like so many machines. Nevermind it was the first actually nice day in 4 months, and they were sitting in a coffee shop without actually purchasing anything to eat or drink. It pains me to think that this is what is to come. |
