Magic Athlon XP 1800+! Thoroughbred B

OcPrices has taken AMD's New Athlon XP 1800+! CPU that utilise Thoroughbred B0 core for a spin! Here's a byte.

Here at OcPrices, we have a relatively large turnaround of AMD processors, and in constructing a couple of machines of late, I have noticed a phenomenal increase in overclockability. My latest wunder-chip is a Malaysian XP1800+, with the following stepping:

AXDA1800DUT3C 9253666260114
JIUCB 0250WPPW ©1999 AMD

As you can see, this particular chip was originally a 2600+, and AMD have simply siphoned off batches from faster production lines to supplement slower models where demand is higher. Just goes to show how much profit margin there is on an XP2600+ if they can be marketed and sold as a mere 1800+ ;-)

Your bios has to support it. Does anyone know how high it can clock? Cuz now we can use 2100B to hit about 2.6-2.8 stabl under Promethia. Can this chip really clock as high as 2100B and still be stable?

My bios supports up to 2600+, anyway it hit 2133mhz at stock voltage and 2472mhz w/ a Vapochill. Not bad for an 1800+ The article says it is really a rebadged 2600+.

Yeah, but what I am saying is that the 2100B still overclocks better than the 1800+ does in this review. People have hit 3000 with the 2100B. On air the 2100B goes from 2100-2400mhz. Under promethia people usually run 2.6-2.8. For the 40$ difference I'm all about the 2100B.
