Consumer advocates try to derail Google/DoubleClick merger

Source: Ars Technica
__________
Three consumer advocacy organizations have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), asking the agency to put the kibosh on the proposed Google/DoubleClick merger until certain data privacy requirements are met.

The Electronic Privacy Information Center, the Center for Digital Democracy, and the US Public Interest Research Group have joined forces to file the complaint, which was submitted to the FTC today. The 11 page document claims that "neither Google or DoubleClick have taken adequate steps to safeguard the personal data that is collected" by their respective services, and the FTC is asked to use its merger review authority to put the proceedings on hold until certain "unfair and deceptive trade practices" are altered by the two companies.
