The hard drive enclosure is a testament to the fact that often the simplest products are those that are the hardest to design. An enclosure is a simple thing, it is a container that holds, powers, and connects a hard drive while it is out of the case. Almost anything can do this, and in many ways the enclosure itself is unnecessary, but many companies have still been unable to really perfect the design. Some skimp on cooling, others limit the connectivity, while still others makes something that is impractically shaped or does not travel well. Finding the right enclosure should be easy, but for the picky buyer, it can become a long search.
