The National Research Council (part of the Congressionally-sanctioned National Academies of Science) has just issued a massive report on privacy in the US. The 456-page document (
executive summary here) will probably give most readers more information then they ever wanted on the subject, but the most important bits come at the end, when the committee makes its recommendations. And while some of the recommendations are uncontroversial (people should have some form of recourse when the government violates its own privacy standards), others are sure to stir up more debate, such as the recommendation to establish a national privacy commissioner.
