The best way to communicate in multiplayer games is with voice chat. Console gamers are just starting to discover this, with universal voice chat available on some Xbox games, all Xbox 360 games, and increasingly on more PS3 titles. Meanwhile voice chat has been a staple of PC gaming for nearly a decade. FireTeam included voice chat over dial-up modem connections and even came with a headset in the box—nine years ago. Since then, built-in voice chat has become an increasingly popular free addition to PC games, from Unreal Tournament 2003 five years ago, up to the just-released Lord of the Rings Online.
