Peer-to-Patent Project begins one-year trial run next week

The US Patent and Trademark Office has announced that a one-year pilot program to test how well peer review can work with the patent-granting process will begin next week. Developed by the New York Law School, the Peer to Patent Project is sponsored by tech giants such as CA, HP, IBM, Microsoft, and Red Hat as well as the MacArthur Foundation. First conceived in May 2006, it was hoped that the project would go live by the beginning of 2007.
