AMD Phenom to launch in November

Source: DigiTimes
____________
AMD's family of high-end desktop CPUs Phenom (Agena) is scheduled to start appearing in November, according to sources at Taiwan-based motherboard makers. Four products are set to be available in 2007, which will be followed by 11 more during first quarter 2008.

AMD is planning to begin test-production on the CPUs between September and October in order to start shipping in November, said the sources. Of the four products to launch in 2007, one will be in the enthusiast Phenom FX range, the FX-80, two in the quad-core Phenom X4, the GP-7100 and GP-7000, and one in the dual-core Phenom X2, the GS-6550.

so are these babies meant to even compare to the core2's ? i doubt they'll keep up to an overclocked 65nm core2.. let alone the 45nm release soon!

Brutality will become famous soon enough

I think they can pretty much kick some serious ass. Atleast I hope so . Besides, new tech has always been good in the beginning. This really is AMD's make or break chanche though. It would suck if they'd fail. That would mean 10x CPU prices for Intel and total domination of CPU market, thus no evolution and everything's gonna be scrwed

fingeres crossed....

I've been AMD fan for a long time, and I'm sooo impressed with the core2's technology and accept the fact that intel seriously are in the lead.

If this beats intel... i'm gonna stick with AMD. =)

I'm not concerned if they can beat the C2D's at all. But I'm concerned if they can compete on the price/performance ratio against them. Right now, Intel has the upper hand on every category, from value to extreme performance processors. I just hope that AMD can counter Intel with either very high performance or very low priced processors, to provide some healthy competition for us to choose from. Monopoly is never a good thing.

Spot on Grace. Price/performance is what we're looking for.
And after switching from an X2 to C2D, I can tell the difference is not _that_ big. AMD should be able to easily top that.

Actually some of the X2 CPU's has a really good value, if you are not OC'ing.

Well the Q6600 is supposed to drop to be around $266 and I believe this will happen around the release of phenom, if not sooner. I am curious as how they are going to compete.

So AMD won't have any new CPUs for the back to school sales period? That isn't very good news at all for their bottom line.

I'm looking forward to the release myself. Been a long time AMD supporter despite what my specs are. I remember running the K6, K6II, and K6III when the PIII was the bomb.
