Logitech Z-5450 Wireless Speakers Review @ Tweaktown
Review: Tweaktown
_______ Today we have got Logitech’s latest wireless digital 5.1 system tethered to my test bench and we will be putting them through the paces to assess performance at the mid-high-end price point. Given this figure we will provide comparative reference to the Creative Megaworks 550, Klipsch 4.1 and Videologic X-fire products. Though not all 5.1 digital, with some being 4.1 analog, there is still plenty of performance aspects to compare between them. Now let’s take a glance at Logitech’s reported specifications for the Z-5450's. |

IMO, it's stupid to put AC Power required for back speakers as a CON... wtf, you think your gonna stuff a freaking battery in there? I've sold these 5450's, one thing that is very much appreciated is that they can plug in using power instead of running speaker wires all the way to the front, and lets make things very clear, one of the main reasons no one fully sets up there surround speakers (usually just places them beside the front ones) is because they don't want a ragged mess to the back of wires and whatever to trip over as well.
tweaktown, the editor for that review, you should be shot for that CON.. lol. As for the bass driver, i'd have to disagree with the comparibility of the 2300 set, while it is small, it does one hell of a decent job. Much MUCH better then the 5300e's as well. In my tests, it was able to produce a solid and clear low tone right up to the higher low tones without distorting even at higher volumes (using stock sub volume). Another fact, they shouldn't have been using that damn creative card, if anything, they should have ran through all the test using a fully digital connection, the more i play with digital, specially a DD/DTS capable controller (yes i'm going to say it, a realtek ALC883 with Dolby Digital LIVE! ) They would have made changes to the judgement a bit more, the analog connections are great, but a true digital is by far the most excellent i've heard thus far. NOW one thing they should have listed as a con, of all things, is that the rear speakers are only capable of dilivering a 48khz/16bit sample audio EVEN if the source is 96khz/24 that the front ones are able to provide. this is a limitation of the current wireless logitech tech, and logitech makes a small note of it if you thoroughly read through the manual provided. Lastly, this ISN'T the most expensive logitech unit (north america anyways), the Z-5500 gen2 is the most expensive, and by a fairly significant amount. For the price though, this system is by far top end for quality, music and the works, and if they were using a digital connection with DD Live! ProLogicIIx, they would probably really REALLY change thier attitude.

I felt the review was overly generous to the speakers.

Overly generous? How so? they con the wrong shit and then miss the stuff they should have conned...
I heard a crapload of system, the Logitech Z-5450 is for the price, imo one of the ultimate for a home theaters/computer system surround sound, IF you can't or don't want to use rear speakers that require a wire ran to them, if however you can, don't spend the money on them, go one step further, the wired Z-5500 will totally destroy the z-5450's in that arena

Do have to agree the sub needs to be a bit bigger. A nice solid 8" would of done the job nicely.
