Internet Explorer 8 Beta to begin later this year?

According to Microsoft, the Internet Explorer 8 Beta is set to begin when Vista SP1 ships later this year. There is no information on when the exact date would be. However, since mainstream support for XP doesn't end until April 2009 Microsoft will support IE 8 to Windows XP users.

But in the same way that IE 7 was released, there will be 2 versions: one that is built on the security settings of Vista, and the other one on the settings of XP SP2 or SP3.

Interesting - will it have native SVG support, since the Adobe SVG Reader is set to be discontinued - http://www.adobe.com/svg/eol.html and there seem to be some problems using it with IE7 anyway.

SVG is a true W3C standard, a suggested form of vector content in Wikipedia, but maybe the lack of standards support in IE is unsurprising, given that it took until IE7 to get PNG transparency right.

Maybe the impending EOL of the Adobe plugin will provide a focus, but while they say it's no longer needed, every significant browser other than the most popular (Internet explorer, by default) has matured to the point of including native SVG support.
