Speculation on Phenom, early performance numbers on Barcelona

There's a fair amount of news swirling around both Barcelona and Phenom this week, particularly concerning the former's performance and the latter's alleged delay. According to SPEC figures published at The Inquirer and apparently drawn from an AMD marketing presentation, Barcelona packs a serious punch: the 2.3GHz Barcelona outperforms a Clovertown 2.66GHz by 21% in integer and a whopping 50% in floating-point. Barcelona doesn't pull any punches when compared to its predecessors, either. Compare the Opteron 8222 and the 8356, and Barcelona's average performance lead is 60%, despite the Opteron 8222's 700MHz clockspeed advantage. Toss in the fact that Barcelona 2356's TDP is 95W compared to 120W for the Opteron 2222, and AMD appears to have a winner on its hands, if the company can launch the core on time.
