Report: South Korea tops in social networking, US fifth

Source: Ars Technica
_____________
Although social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook look like raging successes here in the US, the real action is happening in other countries. In South Korea, for instance, more than half of all Internet users have accessed a social networking site in the last 30 days. The US isn't even close to this; in fact, we come in a distant fifth, according to a new survey.

Ipsos Insight has just released new data from the company's "Face of the Web 2006" survey, and they took a look at the percentage of regular Internet users who visited social networking sites from various countries. South Korea took top honors by a wide margin, with Brazil, China, Mexico, and the US taking the next four spots. In South Korea, a single service (Cyworld) already has 18 million accounts—enough for 30 percent of the entire country's population.
