Six months on, Vista users still griping

Source: MSNBC
______
SEATTLE - Chris Pirillo leaned away from his webcam and pointed to his printer/scanner/fax machine, which stopped scanning and faxing after he installed Microsoft Corp.'s new Windows Vista operating system.

"I can't live in Vista if the software that I use in my life for productivity does not work," said Pirillo, in the third minute of a 52-minute video he posted on YouTube.

Nearly six months after it launched, gripes over what doesn't work with Vista continue, eclipsing positive buzz over the program's improved desktop search, graphics and security.

Pirillo is geekier than the average user. He runs a network of technology blogs called Lockergnome, and was one of several "Windows enthusiasts" Microsoft asked for Vista feedback early on.
Still, Vista tested even Pirillo's savvy. He fixed the hobbled printer and other problems by installing VMware, a program that lets him run XP within Vista. But when his trial copy expired, he decided the solution was too clunky — and too expensive.
He "upgraded," as he called it, back to XP.
Tested his savvy? eh? He fixed the "hobbled" printer? does that mean he bothered his ass looking for updated drivers for vista? or did he hand code a new set himself? oh right ..... instead of looking for updated printer drivers from the company who make his printer he went to the effort of installing vmware to run XP on Vista with the old XP printer drivers ........ that is really microsoft's fault

As for the rest of that article, such a lot of utter crap, I would love these people to go into specifics so I could understand what it is exactly they can't get working.

Right now I have my FULL graphics suite working from flash/photoshop/dreamweaver to my DVD encoders, MKV players.... you name it ...... and everything else I have tried. Those apps that didn't work right have had free updates weeks/months ago.

Yeah for sure, the funny thing is apart from people complaining about video card drivers not having the performance of XP sets which I think is still valid (if not so much now than it was a few months ago), no one in these "articles" ever goes into specifics.

I mean this article is basically saying that a self professed geek expert has failed to get a printer driver working on vista and is blaming the OS because he is either too stupid or too lazy to go to hewlett packard/epson or canon's site for a new vista driver. Anyone with half a brain can work out this is merely propoganda to get hits. The only other option is that the majority of people these articles are based on are in fact idiots, which is a scary assumption.

I even gave my parents a system with vista installed and they are loving it, and im having less phone calls as vista is more secure and seems to have less problems with uneducated users doing silly things.

i'm still using XP, only because the software i use for music production hasn't been updated for the PC in about 5 years, and won't be (apply bought out the company, it's now mac only)

I might dual boot in the future though, or use it on another machine

Hey Zardon Bud I gotta look out for your health man, let them have their moment of glory. How about you send me some beer and I'll do a DH editorial called Vista: 6 months on, it works. LMAO

Newcastle: Colin leaned away from his webcam and points to his printer/scanner/fax machine which works just fine after he installed microsofts newest operating system Vista. He takes a swig from his glass of whiskey and exclaims 'I just don't get it I press print and out pops a paper copy of my screen, all I did was visit HP's site and download a driver. I did consider visiting Epsons site but then I glanced at my printer and saw the letters HP on the front, using a geeky sense of technological deduction I avoided a near catastrophe and downloaded the correct driver in minutes'.

Taking another sip of JD he leans back with a reflective look on his face before beckoning the interviewer closer, raising one hand in a mock conspiratorial whisper he reveals another shocking fact, all of his games work too, perfectly smoothly at high resolutions. He winces involuntarily as though expecting a lightning strike to reduce him to so much ash or maybe he's just waiting for crowds of MS haters to appear at his door but when nothing happens he continues 'I think Microsoft are definitely up to something releasing a product that works so satifactorily after only 6 months on the open market'.

Off the record Colin lets slip to the interviewer that he's concerned about his future in journalism and is feeling the urge to write unfounded, press grabbing nonsense just so that he can keep his name in the headlines. After all he knows his readers like nothing more than a chance to moan and bitch about someone elses relative success and good news rarely steals the front page.

Honestly who installs a new OS w/o doing research if their hardware has drivers to support it?
