Microsoft says Windows Vista sales reach 60 million

REDMOND, Washington (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. had sold 60 million Windows Vista licenses as of the end of June, including 20 million copies sold since mid-May, the company said on Thursday.

The world's largest software maker disclosed the new sales figures on Vista, the latest version of its dominant Windows operating system released on January 30, at its annual meeting with financial analysts.

Oh, please. There is no way Microsoft is selling 10 million copies of Vista per month.

Why do we keep hearing about this? I mean, it's vaguely interesting, but I have no idea how many copies of Mac OS X, Linspire or Solaris have been sold recently, and don't care about them any more than Vista sales.

FWIW, US PC sales are somewhere in the region of 5.5 million (including several hundred thousands Macs) per month. (Extrapolated from Q2 2007 results.)

Trust me, that statement is worth a lot, cuz if the sales information is correct there are 4.5 million more licenses being sold than there are computers running them, or more than there are computers capable of running Vista.

Who cares how many copies they sold.... it's how many people actually are satisfied is the question

Or they could just be saying that they've "sold" all that they shipped, who knows

And didn't they admit they had poor sales a few months back when they blamed piracy for poor Vista sales?
