Dell on Tuesday announced the acquisition of mobile entertainment software provider Zing, a move likely intended to help Dell establish itself as more of a player in the portable music device market.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though Zing secured an additional $13 million in funding earlier this year. Zing staff will become Dell employees once the acquisition is complete, but Zing will continue to operate from its current Mountain View, Calif. headquarters, according to a Dell spokesman.
