TorrentSpy Closes to U.S. Users

Source: TechnologyExpert
_______
TorrentSpy has closed its doors to U.S. users. As you may know, last year the Motion Picture Association of America sued TorrentSpy, a BitTorrent search engine, for alleged copyright infringement by aiding users in trading pirated material. As part of the ruling against the site, a judge ordered TorrentSpy to begin tracking its users.

Rather than do that, the site has chosen to block U.S. users, in a sort of pyrrhic victory over the MPAA.

Proxies are your friend.
Always search for torrents with an overseas proxy. It is not completely safe but it is better than nothing and helps in this type of situation. Torrentspy is full of fakes and viruses anyhow.

Torrentspy is pure garbage anyway.

Use private sites for new torrents and Btjunkie for anything over 72 hours old.

Ya, me neither.
But when you go through the torrents and you see fifty cracks, ten movies, twenty different pieces of software, and they are all the same size....It is all about moderation of the site. They have the same torrents as all the other sites only the other sites delete fake content and infected cracks. I hope I never catch an infected crack, LOL.

I really have got to sit down & spend an hour and figure torrents out one day. Just don't have the time for it it seems. Been meaning to get around to it all year & just haven't. *sigh*

That's a waste of time. You can't get even get in trouble for searching torrents in the first place. Just use Peerguardian with those public trackers and you'll likely be avoid fake torrents and corrupt data senders.

This issue has nothing to do with the trackers.
They wanted them to log server search traffic of torrents that would be stored in memory for a second.
I myself do avoid fakes and do run Peerguardian while downloading.
They want the list of IP's that are actually searching for torrents so it makes there job easier. That way they can just monitor a specific IP instead of random uploads. They want to be able to pick and chose who they go after so they know who has money and who do not.

I have a portable version of Firefox all set up for overseas random proxies for seaching torrents.

Newsgroups are probably the safest right now. I'm surprised they haven't gone after them.

Who is guaranteeing those so called private tracker sites are as private as they say. Downloading the actual torrent and downloading contents initiated by a torrent are two different things. Now they are trying to target people just downloading the actual torrent file and that is the problem. That is why Torrentspy closed its server for US searches.

I do agree Calidan that newsgroups are the safest. The problem is 99% of the people you have to deal with to find the content are total dickheads and makes it not worth it. I will never deal 1on1 with anybody related to the so called "scene". They will flip on a dime the minute the heat is on. That is how all these groups are getting busted, they are ratting each other out.
