When I fire up my copy of Firefox, I'm immediately transported to several technical forums, however beyond a few notable exceptions, there's little talk (in general) about live CDs. Live CDs are essentially fully bootable, self-contained operating systems on a single CD or DVD. They're used to experiment with an alternative OS. They're also incredibly useful for fixing problems on systems that suddenly can't boot. Even here on ExtremeTech, the traffic on this subject is surprisingly limited. Most of the space goes to Knoppix and Ubuntu, which are excellent Linux distros, but hardly the final word on live CDs. So, I decided it's time to end the near-silence on the subject of live CDs.
