We live in a world that is increasingly polarized between the extremes of low-energy and high-energy equipment. Despite the need to reduce energy consumption to benefit both battery life and human life, the computer industry has yet to abandon the quest for ultimate performance. Performance, however, costs energy, and there is no better example of this than in the world of high-end computer graphics. A modern graphical processor (GPU) can consume and radiate well over 100 watts of electrical energy. Imagine the heat from a 100-watt light bulb squeezed into a postage stamp, and you will quickly understand the necessity for efficient cooling.
