Why Microsoft must abandon Vista to save itself

Source: News Blog (News.com)
________
While Vista was originally touted by Microsoft as the operating system savior we've all been waiting for, it has turned out to be one of the biggest blunders in technology. With a host of issues that are inexcusable and features that are taken from the Mac OS X and Linux playbook, Microsoft has once again lost sight of what we really want.

while i havent installed my ultimate vers yet, my wife does have home premium on hers & aside from the fkn slow file/network issue- wich is well documented & should be fixed by sp1- it is a really nice & stable os.
a lot of peeps seem to forget that xp had serious issues until sp1(sp2 was what made it great). vista needs quite a bit of refining but i think in a year or 2 it will be better than xp pro is now.
this just like xp release, 1st year it was like, 'why are you using xp instead of 98'? after sp1 it was 'wh yare you using 98 instead of xp'? to a lesser degree the same thing happened in win 95 -98. same thing will happen with vista.
part of this is the 'hate microsoft' bandwagon. my biggest issue with vista has nothing to do with the os itself but in the poor 64bit support - and that isnt all, or even mostly, ms fault.

actually i think alot of the apple stuff and whatnot was ripped off of longhorn when a few sneak peeks were leaked onto the net......

either way.....longhorn has been in developement to become vista A LONG TIME... it's kinda funny when stuff that was in the initially setup gui wise, was then setup for something else, released before vista.. and then they turn around and claim whatever....

funny

Hmm, why doesn't he say that to use the MacOS X you also need an Apple computer? Why no word for Linux? etc.
I am not a Vista supporter but the article is a pile of shit.

complete idiot....

Quote:
Never before have I seen such an abysmal start to an operating system release. For almost a year, people have been adopting Vista and becoming incensed by how poorly it operates. Not only does it cost too much, it requires more to run than XP, there is still poor driver support, and that draconian licensing scheme is a by-product of Microsoft picking on the wrong people.
1. vista migration has been faster than XP, people were going from 9x codebase to NT. Completely different drivers most of the time
2. Try running XP Luna theme on a 600mhz Pentium 3 without SP1 and talk.
3. Overall this article doesn't consider that Microsoft has explained that the full features of vista require a more powerful system, if you want to run Aero on your radeon 9600 on your Amd Barton 3000+ and expect close to XP performance, you are an idiot. Let alone the effects are far more complex. Vista has gotten rid of ALL my spyware problems with windows defender, IE7 and UAC. I can't say the same about XP. Compatability has been better for me on Vista RC2 w/ my 2.6 P4, than XP on my 800mhz athlon after 6 months. It took me a year and a half on XP to get my computer to run most all my hardware. Look at Mac, has everything migrated to Intel Core? Nope. In addition, going back to migration, this guy is a retard if he doesn't know that often XP drivers will install with little to no issue if you just try manually.

Someone slap him, how did he get on news.com?

I love Vista. I've been using it since May and I've not run into any troubles. Mainly, however, I've enjoyed the look of it immensely. I don't know... functionality? It did take a lot of getting used to for the new shortcuts, etc... in some of the menus, but now I just breeze through most of it and... well, I've also had some fun exploring a new OS for the first time since the beginning of XP.

Not had any trouble gaming.
Enjoyed Call of Juarez and still play WoW... not much to say there.

But yeah!

Windows Vista?
I don't know what the commotion is about, in terms of the UAC, I just disabled that and continued on my merry way. I don't get why these tech writers are crying so much about it, just because they're smart enough to know that, say, Softpedia is a big time software developer doesn't mean an every day joe knows who they are... plus, they're the first people that, if it bothers them so much, that's why you can disable it.

It's like whining about the delete notification before deleting a file -- wah wah, if you don't like it, disable it and move on.

There's enough crying going on about more important issues.
As for security issues?
Well... I've not had any problems.

Vista
1) requires a newer and better system wich a good 60-70% don't have (yet)
thus you can't find drivers for your socket 7 mother boards, oh noes! j/k

Most people don't even bother wit an OS until after the 1ST service pack

The problem is, when people buy vista, install it and the performance sucks they think they're stuck like that because most of these people are lazy and stupid and didn't build their system, they bought one off the shelf in a shop...

I'm using Vista Ultimate now and i like it
Despite WMP11 Crashing whenever i try and play stuff, Network sharing service...
Other than that, all my drivers are fine, aero is looking fantastic and my performance is great =)

news.com can suck my dick, retards...

So, news.com are retards and people who buy ready made PCs (granded, you do say most not all) are lazy and stupid?
Not knowing a field doesn't mean you are lazy or stupid. I don't know what you are very good at and what you have no knowledge of, but I doubt you are stupid or lazy just because of that, right?

Not everyone wants to spend hours or days or more to build, tweak and waste his/her time with a PC. Many people want to just use it, you know, like a TOOL.

majority of pc buyers are "lazy, cheap, and in some form, stupid"...

Buying a product isn't stupid...
Buying a product without doing thorough research and just buying for it's value only, is stupid..

Majority of all the vista issues are directly related to Machines built and the manufacturers NOT supporting the products.. EVEN when it has the Vista READY logo stuck to it.

How many machines do you know of that have the vista ready logo slapped on it, that you can go to thier website and DOWNLOAD the latest drivers both in 32bit and 64bit flavors.... I've yet to come across ONE that does it for all of thier laptops or computers.

Besides having a system with only 1GB of ram installed plus Vista should be illegal.

i don't know, vista with 512mb of ram ... works pretty smooth for me...

actually try this..

setup vista in performance mode.. rip out the 512mb sick and put in 256mb.... and you'll be greeted with vista that runs just as smoothly as xp with 256mb of ram.

Great article. Although its too bad theres so many microsoft fanboys that will defend vista regardless of its shortcomings.

I thought consumers were supposed to be on the same team?

Ya know, a wise man once said something to the effect that it was better to remain silent and be thought a fool, that to speak and remove all doubt. You should heed that.

I find it intereting that the majority of the Vista USERS like Vista fine, and only journalists and the uninformed seem to 'find' problems.

lol sorry about that maybe i shouldn't have voiced that opinion so openly
It just irritates me that's all, but i'm an intolerant so and so, and that's just me being stoopeed.

Anyvay, hornet, we're not "Defending" vista despite it's "shortcomings" as you said, we're saying that we like vista despite a few issues.
Unless you've forgotten, Every operating system has it's problems, XP Was buggy as shit before it was fixed up properly with updates and service packs from microsoft.

I'd say MS have done pretty well with vista, despite a few driver compatability issues and DX10, I'm not gonna bother investing in a DX10 Card until it's actually working, then i'll go buy a 2400 pro or a 2400xt lol
