Why I Won't Buy an iPhone
Source: Business Week
_________ I don't own an iPhone, and I don't think I ever will. That may come as a surprise to anyone acquainted with my long history of owning and liking Apple products. It's not that I don't think it's an extraordinary device. Having tried it, I think it represents a fundamental step forward in what a mobile phone can be. And it sure looks like it's going to be imitated six ways to Sunday. |

I haven't read the article yet, but I can't imagine how the iPhone is a fundamental step forward for a mobile phone. There were phones way before the iPhone that could do more than it can. Sure, not as cool looking or with such screen, but still better IMO.

If you want a real mobile computer just go out and buy a PalmPC >_>
Imo the iPhone is an overpriced, utterly useless status symbol. It's locked on AT&T FFS!! You pay more in total for an iPhone than you do for 2 year's subscription to WoW, a PS3 and 360 all put together apparently, i don't know, i've never totalled up the figures |

My work bought me an XV6700. I am more than satisfied with my Pocket PC. I have also been able to install Windows Mobile 6 on the device. (You couldn't update/unlock iPhone without having a brick) I have seen people with the iPhone at work, but they all complain because we use Microsoft Exchange Activesync and for some reason they think the iPhone is supposed to work with it.
I have even been approached to open IMAP on the firewall just so the iPhone users can have wireless access to their exchange mail. Not gonna happen, but good try... Also, every person that talks about how good iPhone is at work can never seem to get a signal in the building we are in where I am able to get phone and internet on my pocket pc in the same building. I guess if you aren't expecting compatibility with Microsoft the phone would be fine, but since I have experienced having all of my e-mail on the go as well as calendar, notes, media, and other synchronization I am spoiled and would never want an apple device since it does not work with anything Microsoft. |
