Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme Heat Sink @ PC Apex

Source: PC Apex
_____________
Thermalright has consistently set the bar for aftermarket heat sinks. The one being reviewed today is the "eXtreme" version of the Ultra-120, a very celebrated heat sink in its own right. This is Thermalright's top dog at the moment, and creme de la creme of high-end heat sinks, if the forums are to be believed. The difference between the regular version and the eXtreme is the number of heat pipes. Heat pipes have become a staple of heat sinks, even being adopted in the stock versions. Adding more will undoubtedly increase the performance, the question is, how much? I'm curious to see how much farther they can take simple forced convection heat transfer without routing the fins to different locations of the case. Thermalright has adopted a new motto: "Bitches don't know 'bout my heatpipes." That's right, 4 more heat pipes over the regular version. But are they worth the extra cost? How eXtreme is this version? Why is the X uppercase and not the E? This review will hopefully answer all these questions, and more.
