Companies ignoring music download risks

Source: PC Pro
______________
Most companies don't prevent staff downloading music to their work machines, despite the security risks posed, a new survey has found.

In a poll of more than 1,000 IT managers, conducted by analysis firm ICM, music downloaded from the web came top of a list of perceived threats to security.

Despite this, two-thirds of those managers admitted that they don't block music downloads to work machines.

IT managers also acknowledged the potential of social networking websites such as Bebo, MySpace and Facebook for spreading malware.

Internet security firm McAfee, which commissioned the survey, says bosses have the tricky task of protecting computers and stopping time-wasting, while upholding staff morale.

"Ultimately, those polled believe this could have a significant financial risk," McAfee says in a statement.
