I haven't read the article, but are there still people without SP2 installed for XP?

There's tons of them using Sp1, even on DH there's people who confess to boycotting Sp2.

There are no winners here.
Boycotting SP2 for XP is moronic, it's just a roll-up of security patches, all the extra features can be disabled. It doesn't add anything which can possibly be viewed as undesirable.

From the article:
"...connected a machine running Windows XP with Service Pack 1 to an unsecured wireless network. The machine was running no antivires, firewall, or anti-spyware software and contained a sample target file of passwords to be stolen." PULEEESSSEEEE...that's like having an 18 yr old nekkid cheerleader bending over and saying "Do me baby".

Even a "secure" wireless network, if access can be bought by the hour, would be no better, as you are exposing a computer to an untrusted LAN, where many firewalls will default to lower security on local address.
It's been said time & time again, an unpatched (or Sp1) Windows XP will be PWNED by the time you download the updates, unless you have the protection of a NAT router, and untrusted systems get on the LAN side of the router, then the router is no help. How can systems get on the LAN side of your router? 1. Wireless, unsecured 2. Wireless, WEP security, cracked by packet sniffing 3. Wired or wireless, guests Unless you know your LAN is completely secure and under your complete control, have software firewalls treat it the same as the "internet zone".
