DARDENNE PRAIRIE, Mo. - Megan Meier thought she had made a new friend in cyberspace when a cute teenage boy named Josh contacted her on MySpace and began exchanging messages with her.

Megan, a 13-year-old who suffered from depression and attention deficit disorder, corresponded with Josh for more than a month before he abruptly ended their friendship, telling her he had heard she was cruel.

The next day Megan committed suicide. Her family learned later that Josh never actually existed; he was created by members of a neighborhood family that included a former friend of Megan's.

It's a sad story all around and really I don't see how the law can get involved. I understand she has depression and ADD and wouldn't want to overlook their affects, however, I've known many people who've had both and don't think it's the reason for her suicide. Some people just aren't that bright and do stupid things which lead to their deaths (like Darwin Awards) and if it wasn't over a boy it would have been something else down the line.

I know that sounds cruel but I think not everyone is born ready to cope with the world and some people are just hardwired to kill themselves.

but it's no lie that there is definitely a sickness people are bound to be born with....

I think with the increase in our ability to further push "intelligent" assistance to our population... in the process of a pregnancy and whatnot, we are increasing the number of issues.... creating more problems for the future....

The child wasn't the sole perpetrator of this psychological bullying. The mother and rest of the family was heaviliy involved and instrumental in the final acts that led to the poor girls' death.

They are the type of family that (subject to a full investigation) should not be allowed to have any children. If they believe that it is fine and dandy to teach their kids how to be the perfect bully then they forfiet their rights to parenthood.

From what I understood, the mother who created the fake profiles was doing so to find out what others had been saying about her own child. It almost sounds like there was another girl also slightly messed up and her mother was looking out for her but took it too far.
