RIAA, MPAA urge pro-copyright vows from presidential candidates

Source: News Blog (News.com)
__________
A coalition of entertainment and publishing industry heavyweights would like to see the 2008 presidential candidates champion "meaningful copyright protection" in their policy platforms.

The requests came Tuesday in the form of a letter (PDF) and a questionnaire (PDF), dispatched by the Washington-based Copyright Alliance to 17 candidates vying for Democratic or Republican nominations next year. The group has requested responses to its questionnaire by early January of next year and plans to make the answers public.

And yet, somehow, in my book, making a miserable life for people trying to play a crappy movie/tune does not equal "progress of science and creativity".

System Specs

I will not vote for a candidate, that sucks up to RIAA or MPAA. Not because I think they're wrong, so much as how they do things. The RIAA goes after people that don't even own PC's for copyright infringement and then tries to bully people out of a few $, that makes no difference on their bottom line(their lawyers cost more). They've been screwing musician's out of money for years and they see that they might be losing out in the years to come, because they aren't the only option anymore. Bands/Musician's see this too and are starting to figure out that there is no need to pay 80% of their profits going to the Music Industry. I'm not a fan of the Band(can't even remember their name) that just released for free and are accepting donations for their new CD, but I would beat they're making more $ this way cutting out the record company's 80% cut.

There are a lot more of "we the people" than there is them the RIAA/MPAA for the politicians to worry about when it comes to votes and election time.
