HD 3850 Crossfire vs. 8800GTS 512MB G92 @ Tweaktown
Review: Tweaktown
_______________ We’ve been given an indication of the pricing which is going to accompany the new 8800GTS; when it came to figuring out what exactly it would compete against in the red corner, we soon after came to the following conclusion. |

IMO, if it takes two ATI cards to beat, by a small margin, one NVIDIA card, then the ATI cards aren't that great.

If AMD could get some driver tweaks for crossfire going, like Nvidia has done for SLI lately, it could be a nice solution actually. As these 3850 are cheap and easy to get.
Here in Denmark it's impossible to get a 8800gt eg. and the price of two 3850 would actually match most 8800gt cards

3850 either needs driver optimizations for a single card to match the performance of an 8800GT, or the 880GTS 512MB featured here in this article (which, isn't it still supposed to be NDA anyways?) |

Was just thinking that too. However, that margin isn't always on AMDs side. The GTS beats the Crossfire setup in a number of benchmarks. Nah.. just as with the 8800GT my money is on the one card again. 1 card, less noise, less power, less problems, and waaay more open space (ie. breathing room) in my case. |

It's not very often I post in anger but what an absolute waste of time that little exercise was. Thats probably the dumbest article I've ever read. We compare two ATI cards to one Nvidia card.
And a year down the line when your stuck with 2 ATI cards and no upgrade option, what then? Mr Nvidia buyer will be laughing all the way to the store as he purchases a dramatically price reduced card and doubles his performance, whilst Mr ATI is checking ebay to see how much he'll get for his pair of cards. Bah humbug
