AMD has recently notified its partners that the launch of higher-end quad-core Phenom processors, including the 9700 and 9900, will be postponed to the second quarter of 2008 from the original schedule of early 2008, according to sources at motherboard makers.

However, whether AMD's triple-core Toliman series CPUs will also see delay will be the key decision for the company, since Toliman offers a high price/performance ratio compared with Intel's quad-core CPUs. A delay for Toliman will hurt AMD the most, noted the sources.

they cant keep delaying chips like this, if they still have the TLB bug, it probably would be better for them to sell them at a heavily discounted price rather than destroy them or something...... something around $150 is good for a functional flawed product.


as good as intel is, if AMD dies, were all screwed....

Beats me, but there are people buying them right now for their current price. Pretty soon Intel will have to help AMD stay in business if it wants to avoid becoming a monopoly. Sad, really.

to account for the performance loss by the TLB bug

the chips work but dont OC or perform stable without the TLB patch

in other words flawed but functions properly with a BIOS patch

they wont be worth it until they have the price dropped considerably from their $199-250 price tag so chopping them down to 100 to 150 is good for a quad chip like this.

since the patch drops performance 10-20% it HAS to be in the budget CPU range to be a good purchase, not mainstream or enthusiast market.

i believe that if they do that, they will get tons of purchases from people who cant get more powerful intel quads.

futureproofing, the whole native quad thing that AMD went on about also works to make things cheaper by only needing to produce a single chip once the process matured.

besides, if something like this was within your price range and you were strapped on cash... performance or not, wouldnt you buy it?

either way, its not like its going to happen, once fanboys feed AMD enough the price will probably only go down a few bucks..... just a bit of wishful thinking.
