Measuring CPU usage during HD video playback: ATI vs. NVIDIA @ Ars Technica

Source: Ars Technica
__________
Video card gaming performance traditionally gets most of the coverage whenever ATI and NVIDIA go head-to-head with new products, and it makes a certain amount of sense given that gaming is a traditional driver of discrete graphics card sales. But gaming isn't the only field on which ATI and NVIDIA compete. Today I'll be examining high definition video image quality and CPU usage during HD decoding on a set of current ATI and NVIDIA cards.

Nice article. I was looking for something just like this.

I was thinking of putting together a little HTPC machine using a VisionTek 2600Pro or 2400Pro that I have at the store (both come with DVI/VGA/HDMI out), and I was going to pair that with the LG HD-DVD/Blu Ray/DVDRW drive. At least now I know that with those cards I don't have to go overboard on a high end CPU, but could get away with something lower... maybe a 4000 series Core 2.
