MacOS Market Share Hits Record at 7.31%

According to Net Applications' December 2007 market share data for operating systems, MacOS has hit a new high in terms of usage with 7.31%. At the same time, the iPhone OS hit a high of .12%. These were up from 6.80% and .09%, respectively, in November.

It's not even a record in terms of market share as at one time the Mac held as high as ten percent of the entire international market share--that was a couple of decades ago when the annual international market for personal computers was a tiny fraction of what it is today--like about ~5% of what it is now. That was back when the numbers were pretty accurate and were compiled based on sales figures, as well.

Numbers like these, though, are estimates extrapolated from web-site data--not hard sales data--and of course never reflect that just as people can use more than a single browser each day they can also use more than a single OS on any given day. IE, people who run Linux can also run Windows and can also run OS X, too, or Solaris, or you-name-it, depending on what they have access to at home and work and while traveling on the road, etc. Ditto for the silly iPhone Internet data, too, as I know more than one person for whom an iPhone is just one of several he owns and uses regularly for different reasons.

This kind of thing ought to be obvious to everybody these days. It's just not an "either-or" world anymore even some people will never see it as anything else...
