DH Interview with Giuseppe Amato, AMD Technical Director sales and marketing EMEA

Read the full interview here
_______________________

We recently had the chance to sit and chat with Giuseppe Amato and we asked him some questions about AMD's strategy.

Driver Heaven: Since the release of the Core 2 Duo platform Intel has been doing really well in the enthusiast and mobile processor market. Do you see yourself creating a killer product in the near future that could do the same for you?

Giuseppe: In the mobile space AMD had a very strong 2007 and we have our sights set even higher for 2008 with the release of the Puma platform in 1H 2008. Puma will raise the bar in platform performance per watt with more visual computing performance than any other mobile platform.

In the desktop segment we will continue to work to increase the frequency and performance of Phenom but the focus is really on the platform proposition. While our competitor would prefer to keep the performance argument on CPU Ghz we would challenge users to look at the complete picture with technologies like CrossFireX that allow you to significantly scale enthusiast gaming performance for an incremental GPU investment. While the CPU is an important part of the equation the GPU is really what defines the experience in the high-resolution HD gaming world.

Because running af CrossfireX system will for sure give alot performance per watt.. oh wait.

If AMD believe going crazy with multiple units is the way to go, they should wake up and take a look at what happend with 3DFX.

I disagree Erroneus. The GPU landscape (the market, the technological capabilities, GPU utility) are totally different today than they were back then. I for one think AMD's take is a step in the right direction.

if they got good drivers then they'll kill in the market

they will only need a competent CPU after that, i hope 9900 is a decent chip....

ermm. I thought the responses were a bit "pr"ish, and he intentionally seemed to avoid answering directly. Can't say I blame him after 2007

I really liked the previous Roy Taylor interview on DH, the guy seemed to have a bit of a personality, sometimes I feel that these suits are reading from a cue card.

Good questions though, just wish we got more honest answers.

i also think they are going into the right direction... its all about the business and normal home user market, one motherboard with intigrated everything and good performance at a cheap price seems good enough for me.

me with my graphics card... sigh* I rather have 1 less fan in my system

Sounded mostly like PR speak (not wanting to admit that Intel has better performance and that it's important). The last answer was informative, and I liked that.

I don't disagree, BTW, that taking the low end integrated throne from Intel is not a worthy goal. I just hope that AMD does come up with CPU's and GPU's that can compete with Intel and NVIDIA in speed.
