Hopefully you remember the Megan Meier case, in which a teenage girl committed suicide after a MySpace romance went bad. The romance itself and the boy involved were in fact fictional, perpetrated as a vindictive prank by the mother of a former friend who lived down the street.

What are the details on this story? Did the mother convince the girl to kill herself? Or was it a prank that got out of hand given the daughter's instability? The outcome is tragic either way, but I don't know how accountable the mother can be if the girl is the one who decided to kill herself.

Short version: The girl who killed herself was duped into thinking a neighborhood mother and daughter were a boy. The "boy" established an online relationship with the girl then turned on her. The girl hung herself in her closet.

Sounds like a very, very sad story...but all in all, if you're willing to end your life over a romantic relationship on myspace, you're better off dead anyways. She was so young, with so much more life to live.

Well, that's a little harsh.

She was a teenage girl, who obviously had poor coping skills. Kids don't need that kind of crap. (Speaking as a father of three boys)
