What do they say about MySpace? Don't put stuff there you're might regret others seeing later. In this case Arlington, Oregon mayor Carmen Kontur-Gronquist has no apologies for her critics, but the picture above has gotten her into hot water.

Companies are now checking to see if potential employee's have MySpace pages and what kind of content are on them. Shouldn't this apply to people that hold public office as well?

I don't find the picture to be an outrage, but one does not show oneself in underwear in public (and MySpace pages are public), so she did show a certain lack of good taste and decency (some things are appropriate in some situations and inappropriate in others - you tell jokes in a bar, but not at a funeral; you wear a swimsuit on a beach, but not in other public situations). If the people of her town decided they no loner wanted her to be their mayor because of this, that's their own business. I don't know how much they pay their mayor, but other than that, I'm not sure if she should care if she's a mayor of a 500 people town or not anyway.

Because people should be accountable for their actions. Especially when they hold a public office.

She hasn't taken any actions to be held accountable for. Last I checked all girls wear bras and shirts, and the shirts even come off. So what exactly is she being guilty of? Being human and having human desires? Having friends or a social life? Show proof that these traits of hers interfere with the job she was elected to do.

The only thing this mayor did wrong is have a busted face and a fake tan.

And in any other country, nobody would care but in the US, well given that people are quite prudish, this is the end of the world...

If US Presidents aren't held accountable for the deaths of military personnel (which is far worse), why should a picture of a mayor in a bra (which is no different than her being on the beach) be worse?
