When Amazon MP3 launched last year, you can bet it was looked upon by Apple as just another minor threat to iTunes' dominance. But with the signing of Sony BMG, Amazon is the only retailer selling DRM-free music from all four major music labels. And now it's a major threat.

Today Amazon announced that Amazon MP3 was going global, spreading DRM-free music worldwide.

How is using MP3 vs. AAC a major advantage? The only advantage that I can think of is older players can't play AAC.

Many if not most mp3 players (new ones) can't play AAC either.

Good move from Amazon, I will buy if they are available from 320.

I'd buy if they were available in FLAC with high-quality album scans, otherwise, I'll pass.

Unfortunately the Amazon MP3 tracks are encoded at 256 with Joint stereo.
IMO the sound quality from Apple (AAC 256) is much closer to CD quality than the .mp3 tracks from amazon. It's a shame most players can decode these files.
