Various ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 Tested
Review: Hothardware
_______________ When AMD released the Radeon HD 2900 XT in May of last year, we were left with a bitter taste in our mouths. Not because the product was all that bad, but because it seemed AMD was content to leave NVIDIA uncontested at the high-end of the 3D graphics card market. If you remember, when the Radeon HD 2900 XT launched AMD had targeted the mid-range GeForce 8800 GTS, and not NVIDIA’s high-end 8800 GTX or Ultra. It seemed as if AMD just didn’t want to be in the fight for 3D graphics supremacy any longer and enthusiasts like yourselves, who seek nothing but the highest performing products, were left with only a single option. Review: Hardware Canucks _______________ Within the last few months we have seen a flurry of new releases from the two main players in the graphics card market. Both ATI and Nvidia have been concentrating on the mid-end performance cards which offer you the most bang for your hard earned buck with products like the 8800GT and HD3870. Both companies have been completely content to let the year-old 8800GTX sit at the top of the heap with its easily-earned performance crown. Never before in recent memory has a single graphics card retained the lead for so long…until today. Review: PC Perspective _____________ AMD's R680 has been about as low key as a Britney Spears shopping spree at Palace of Wigs and AMD seems to be just fine with that. After all, they were the ones running the displays and demos. The R680 card was seen at the original AMD Spider demo day in Tahoe, the first AMD RV670 / HD 3870 editor's day and as recently as this past CES show in Vegas, even inside Intel's Skulltrail platform demo. Review: techPowerUp _____________ Today AMD announced the Radeon HD 3870 X2. This graphics card is based on the R680 graphics processing unit which consists of two RV670 GPU cores. Both cores are interconnected using a PCI-Express bridge chip and run in a CrossFire setup which is completely transparent to the end user. There is no CrossFire option to enable in CCC, nor is there one to disable it. Review: Tweaktown ______________ It’s one of those cards we’ve heard about quite a bit, but often when it comes to these dual GPU models they’re nothing more than a bit of a prototype. Sometimes they manage to also hit the media and on the rare occasion they actually go into mass production for all to get their hands on it. Last edited by Zardon; Jan 28, 2008 at 10:01 AM.
